How is UX Different than Graphic Design?


User experience is the art of dynamically changing the behavior of the design in such a manner that it attracts the user and user feels involved into it. Also, it should inculcate the desire to know more. Whereas Graphic design is the way in which we can visually communicate through designs and also solves the problems through it.

Major Differences between UX and Graphic Design

Creative vs. Analytical Thinking: Graphic Designer follows creative thinking and on other side UX Designer follows analytical thinking.

Job Responsibilities:  Graphic designing is a part of UX. A Graphic Designer works on project that focuses on creating a visual identity for an app. He does his best designing in keeping in mind of colors, layout, typography etc. On other side UX designer cares about the same things but he has to take into consideration what exactly user wants.

Main Aim: Graphic designers speak the language of design. He/she focuses on interpreting the message visually, and other side UX designer much focuses on usability.

Way of Working: Graphic designer usually do things such as create mood boards or design a brand’s style guide, on other side UX Designer understands the business goals, and for this they create prototypes, imitations of a new design. Continuously test that new design with customers and make improvements. 

Working Industry: Graphic Designer works for designing firms, marketing team, creative agency, branding team etc. UX Designer works for development team.

Design Process: The most important difference between graphic design and UX design is design process. When product is launched then Graphic Designer finishes the design process. On the other hand for a UX designer the product launch is just a first step in design process. A UX design works with user feedback. He continuously tested and adjusted.

Software: Graphic Designers work with software i.e. Adobe Photoshop, CorelDraw, Adobe InDesign and Adobe Illustrator. UX Designers use software like: Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe XD, SketchApp, Invision, Zeplin etc. And   also should have basic knowledge of HTML/CSS and JavaScript.
