Types of Light in Cinema 4d That You Might Not Know

Are you looking for becoming an expert animator, 3d modeler and motion graphics artist? If yes then you should go for Cinema 4d which is an easy and innovative tool that can elevate you designing to the next level. Lighting is an indispensable when you work with modeling, animation and motion graphics in Cinema 4D and this is what we are going to discuss today in this blog post.

But before we start our discussion on lighting let’s get started with an overview of this amazing software.

An Overview to Cinema 4D

Cinema 4d doesn’t need any definition and explanation as it is one of the most popular software in the arena of 3d animation, motion graphics and 3d modeling. In this powerful application, we can do several tasks such as modeling, lighting, rendering, amination, and many more. The newly launched version i.e. Cinema 4d r19 released in September 2017 has come with numerous new features that one can’t avoid. Since this application is one of the popular and demanded tools in the growing field of animation, you should make sure that you have joined right Cinema 4d training course from an ideal institute.

Lighting in Cinema 4d plays a significant role in elevating the final output and is divided into 7 types.
Below I’m going to explain each type in detail.

Types of Light in Cinema 4D

Every light in this software has its own property as every scene needs different light. Basically, there are 7 lights in cinema 4d which are the following:
  1.  Point Light
  2.  Spot Light
  3.  Area Light
  4.  Infinite light
  5.  IES Light
  6.  Target Light
  7.  Sun Light

Point Light: - The most common light in this list is known as Point light which is similar to bulb light. It goes to all direction. The object which is closer to it looks bright comparing to the object present far from it. Every 3d application has a point light which is known by different names. For instance, in Maya application we call it point light but in 3ds Max it is known as omni light.

Spot Light: -The spot light refers to sound because sound travel in one direction. This light provides us direction and looks like cone in shape. It goes in all directions. The most common use of spot light is to create 3-point lighting which help in making unique studio lighting effects.

Area Light: - It provides light in a boundary for e.g. wall ceiling. This light is perfect for recreating of florescent light. It is known as Mr area spotlight in 3ds Max whereas in Maya it is known as area light.

Infinite light: - It is also known as directional light which is being use when we create a large model like a model of city or town. In 3ds max it is known as free directional light.

IES Light: -IES light is different from other lights as it does not carry any temperature and we can even set the different color in it.

Target Light: - Target light is much similar to spotlight but it can follow and target the object which spotlight can’t.

Sun Light: - It is generally used in city and large models where animators want to show sunlight.

So, we have seen that there are different lights in Cinema 4d which are used for different purposes. We can avoid lights in our models as through only lighting effects we can make our model realistic.
