A Quick Introduction to the Workspace of CorelDraw


If you are just started learning CorelDraw then you have landed on the right page. Today in this blog I’m going to give you a quick introduction to the workshop of this graphic design application. It will definitely assist you to comprehend your software more deeply and firmly.

What is CorelDraw?

CorelDraw is a graphic software which uses vector art technique to create design. It can create wide variety of designs from logo creation to illustration to infographics to web graphics to multi-page layouting. It is widely used in print industry because of its versatility and user-friendly environment than another vector software.

Want to know what is vector!

In graphic design there are two basic types of graphic files: Raster(image/bitmap) and vector. Bitmap image is made up using pixels. Each pixel has its own color value and together they form an image whereas vector uses geometric art technique. It compromises of line, curve, nodes and a mathematical formula.
Bitmap image loses its quality upon scaling as compared to vector image. Vector image doesn’t lose its resolution thus is best suited to create logo, illustration etc.

Getting started with CorelDraw

As we launch CorelDraw it opens a welcome screen that let you choose the type of document you want to create or to open any recent document.













Workspace




  • Title bar – First top of the screen which displays details of current document.
  • Menu bar- It contains drop down menu options such as file, edit, view, layout etc.
  • Standard tool bar- It contains shortcut to many commands.
  • Property bar- it shows property of currently active tool.
  • Document tab- list of all the open document and highlights currently active document.
  • Tool bar- It contains all the tools used to modify, create, enhance the object.
  • Drawing window- Screen on which all work is done, contains scroll bars to navigate on the screen.
  • Docker- window that contains command or settings of specific tool.
  • Document navigator- area that contains navigation between pages of document and also helps to add pages in specific order.
  • Navigator- Provides a small display of document to navigate easily on the screen.
  • Drawing page- Area in drawing window that is printable.
  • Color palette- Dock that contains all color swatches.
  • Status bar- Bar present at the bottom of the application window that contains status of active command or object on document and also tells current position of cursor.
